Message from the Headteacher
As we return from the half-term holiday, we can see that spring is very much around the corner. Over the break, while our children and teaching staff enjoyed a well-earned rest, our caretaker and office staff were working tirelessly behind the scenes.
During this time, we have been modernising and making improvements to the school site. At the start of the year, I identified the need to enhance our Sycamore Playground—not just as a space for playtimes, but also as a valuable area for our PE and coaching sessions. As a school, we are in a strong financial position, which allowed us to secure funding to regenerate this space.
To ensure our children had a say in the improvements, I reached out to our Pupil Voice, Playground Friends, for their input. In line with our British Value of Democracy, all children from Year 1 to Year 6 were given the opportunity to vote on what they wanted. It was a landslide decision in favour of a new football pitch with astroturf! Work on the pitch began over the holidays, continued this week, and I am delighted to announce that it is now complete.
In addition to the playground improvements, IT projects also took place over the holidays. We have installed a new server in preparation for exciting new IT resources that will be introduced by the end of the academic year.
We also recently undertook a fire inspection, where we received positive feedback. One of the suggested recommendations was to have our classroom fire doors close into the classroom rather than outward. We agreed with this recommendation and had our contractors make the necessary adjustments over the holidays, ensuring that all doors now close in the classrooms.
I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce and welcome Ms. Khatri, our new Office Manager. She has settled in well and has thoroughly enjoyed meeting our children, staff, and parents in her first week.
Looking ahead to next week, we are excited to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 6th March. Children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character, and take part in our Story in a Container competition. Winners will receive a £5 voucher for the Travelling Book Fair, which will return later this term.
Warm regards Iman Basu Roy
