Message from the Headteacher
Yesterday, we met in phases to celebrate our achievements for the Spring Term. The children sang beautifully and enjoyed participating in an Easter-themed short quiz and solving riddles prepared by Mr Tinney. I would like to thank our music teachers, Mrs Gardener and Miss Waters for their diligence and consistent effort, which has helped to develop the singing ability of our children.
The number of 100% attendance has dipped quite a bit. I guess the winter bugs might have had a role to play in this.
The criteria for awards this time were:
- Ideal Role Model – children who uphold the school values, make right choices, are kind and helpful friends and overall, are good citizens of Vicar’s Green
- Mathematical Reasoning & Problem-Solving Skills – children who are able to apply the key skills acquired during maths lessons into different scenarios and think outside the box. Pupils have the opportunity to demonstrate this during Figure It Out Fridays and Active Maths sessions, which generally take place during maths on alternate Fridays. The aim of these sessions are to nurture within the children a sense of curiosity and growing love for maths.
- Reading Hero – Our Reading Ambassadors selected classmates as the Reading Hero for this term – the key focus was stamina for reading and reading across a variety of genres.
The last few weeks of March, the Senior Leadership Team were busy monitoring books and lessons with a focus in History and Geography.
Some of the areas of strength were:
|
Some areas we need to develop:
|
Strong subject knowledge and use of key vocabulary
Small step teaching, including sharing, practising and modelling opportunities required for building knowledge and understanding
Clearly identified BIG questions frame the units and sequence of lessons work to meeting it.
Effective use of Knowledge Organisers
Evidence of presentation features (drawing tables and graphs) as appropriate
|
Continue to build in frequent opportunities for reviewing work
Introduce annotating of knowledge organisers with new knowledge and understanding.
Further develop adaptations to tasks for the more able learner to demonstrate depth in learning.

In our Early Years, the EYFS team have been taking part in an active
research project through the ‘Spiral of Enquiry’
networking with school to review and improve
language and communication of pupils in EYFS
with SEND needs. It has provided the EYFS team
with the opportunity to share good practice and
try new strategies that have a real impact on our
pupils. The work around oracy and vocabulary
development was noted as a contributing factor
to the success the EYFS team have. We will be presenting to the Head teachers of Ealing in June.
Wishing everyone a lovely holiday, and looking forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday 22nd April 2025.
Warm regards Iman Basu Roy
